The Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) will be appointing Mr Chuan Wee Meng as Chief Executive Officer with effect from June 13, 2019.

Prior to joining SIMC, Mr Chuan served as General Counsel of IBM Greater China and Nortel Networks Asia Pacific over a period of more than 15 years. Before going in-house, Mr Chuan practised as a litigator.

Mr Chuan is an accredited mediator of the Singapore International Mediation Institute. He graduated with a law degree from the National University of Singapore and holds a Master of Laws from the University of Hong Kong. He is called to the Singapore Bar and is on Hong Kong’s Roll of Solicitors.

Mr Aloysius Goh, the current CEO of SIMC, will be leaving SIMC on June 12, 2019. He will be moving on to pursue his personal interests in education and mediation practice.

Mr George Lim S.C., Chairman of SIMC, said, “I am pleased to welcome Wee Meng as CEO. With the forthcoming UNCITRAL Mediation Convention to be signed in Singapore on August 7, 2019, mediation will be an increasingly popular choice for resolving international commercial disputes. I am confident that Wee Meng’s experience with Asian businesses will enable us to improve and grow SIMC’s standing as a leading international mediation centre.

“On behalf of the SIMC Board, I would also like to thank Aloysius for his contributions to SIMC. Aloysius has helped to steer SIMC to become a credible international mediation organisation, known for its highly qualified and experienced panel members and expertise in managing cross-border disputes.”

Mr Chuan said, “As GC of IBM Greater China, I experienced the competitive advantage that mediation brings to IBM, especially in complex cross border disputes. I look forward to working with the team to continue building SIMC as an international mediation centre for cross-border disputes.”
